TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono has spoken up about criticism voiced by netizens on social media regarding the logo of Jakarta's 496th anniversary. Heru said all parties were involved in the creation of the logo as the city administration launched a competition.
“We had involved all of them,” Heru said at Central Park, West Jakarta, Sunday, May 21, 2023.
Joko Agus Setyono, Jakarta Regional Secretary, said that there were around 500 theme proposals submitted via the city’s official website. “We had contested the Jakarta anniversary’s logo design,” he said.
Sigit Wijatmoko, Acting Head of Jakarta Communication, Informatics and Statistics Agency, also emphasized that the provincial government involved all communities in making the Jakarta anniversary logo design.
“This is evident by honoring appreciation to designers. Pak Governor presented a certificate of appreciation to the designers in one session at the announcement earlier,” Sigit added.
He said that this means the public had been given sufficient time to make proposals, including the State Civil Apparatus (ASN).
When asked whether Jakarta Plus was also involved, Sigit did not provide a clear answer. “Everyone is given the same opportunity and space because at that time we launched it on the website,” Sigit clarified.
In the welcoming speech at the announcement of the 496th Jakarta Anniversary logo at Monas on Sunday morning, Joko Agus stated that Jakarta chose the theme and logo designed by Yunita Irmania, who is a civil servant from the Jakarta Culture Agency. The theme is Jakarta: Jadi Karya untuk Nusantara which literally translates into work for the nation.
The logo for Jakarta's 496th Anniversary drew criticism on Twitter. An account @joyxxx assessed that there was no call-to-action spirit in the theme and tagline. “It doesn’t reflect vis-a-vis the spirit of the people of Jakarta,” the account said as quoted by Tempo, on May 22, 2023.
