TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi brought up the Myanmar conflict at the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, which has been started on Friday, May 19. Jokowi asked Japan to be involved in the effort to send humanitarian aid to the people of Myanmar, who recently faced a shootout incident.
"The President said that Japan’s support is needed to send humanitarian aid through the AHA Center," as stated in a written statement from the palace on Saturday, May 20.
The ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management or AHA Center is an organization established by ASEAN country members that organizes humanitarian aid from ASEAN for Myanmar.
The request was delivered by Jokowi himself during a bilateral meeting with Japanese PM Fumio Kishida at Grand Prince Hotel in Hiroshima today, Saturday, May 20. Jokowi also asked for Japan’s support for the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific or AOIP through participating in the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Infrastructure Forum.
