TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vietnam U-22 national team coach, Philippe Troussier, admitted that Indonesia would become a tough opponent against his team at the men's football semi-finals in the SEA Games 2023. The Indonesia vs Vietnam match will be held in the Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Saturday, May 13.
Both teams have huge ambitions to get to the finals and win the gold medal. Philippe Troussier said defeating Indonesia would be a big challenge for Vietnam.
He said that the Indonesia U-22 team has shown great performance, as the Indonesian team managed to win almost all matches.
"All the teams advanced to the semifinal are not weak, they all have a chance to win. To reach the highest podium. Those who persist [to win] will be the winner. So, it's not all about scores, but also the fighting spirit. That's what we prepare for the match," said Philippe.
As a new coach, Troussier has not yet familiar of the rivalry between teams in the Southeast Asian region, such as Indonesia and Vietnam. But he knew that the match would be as heated as matches in other regions such as Japan-South Korea, or England-France-Germany.
Facing Indonesia, Troussier focuses to recover the team's conditions. Nevertheless, it is assured that The Golden Stars Warriors will be as dangerous, especially in the front line led by Nguyen Van Tung. The Ha Noi FC striker has collected 4 goals during the tournament, becoming the biggest threat for Indonesia U-22 national team.
Meanwhile, Indonesia U-22 team coach Indra Sjafri said that Vietnam team under the new coach would be even more dangerous. It was proven during the Grup B SEA Games 2023 match played by big teams such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.
"Four matches since the beginning of the tournament showed that Vietnam is ridiculously dangerous. They have a new coach with more unpredicted styles of playing. Indonesia must show the best performance to defeat them," Indra Sjafri remarked, asserting that Indonesia U-22 team is ready to face Vietnam.
