Ancol Confirms 2 Tourists Drowned, 1 Died

12 May 2023 20:26 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaAncol Dreamland Park spokesman Ariyadi Eko Nugroho confirmed that two tourists drowned in the sea after falling from a pier on Thursday evening, May 11, 2023. One of them died after receiving treatment at the hospital.

The unfortunate incident occurred near the pier of Beach City Mall on Thursday evening, May 11, 2023.

“It is true that one person died after falling into the sea from the pier around 19:30 WIB (Jakarta time). The victims were a 30-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman who were visitors,” Eko said on Friday, May 12, 2023.

According to him, the two initially stood on the pier and suddenly fell into the sea. “The mall's security team then rescued the victims. The female victim was the first to be rescued. The male victim was rescued later with help from the first aid team and Ancol lifeguard,” Eko explained.

After being rescued, the two were taken to the hospital for further treatment because they were unconscious.

Pademangan Police Chief Comr. Binsar Hatorangan Sianturi said the male victim was declared dead by drowning. The police have yet to confirm why the two visitors fell off the pier at Ancol Beach because the female victim has yet to be questioned.

“We can't take a statement from the female victim because she is still unstable. Regarding the chronology, we are still investigating and taking statements from witnesses,” Binsar concluded.
