TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Deputy Governor Josef Nae Soi stated that no tourist destinations in the province, including Labuan Bajo, are closed during the 2023 ASEAN Summit which is slated to be held on May 9-11.
“All tourists are welcomed to visit Labuan Bajo [during the international event] because all destinations are open as usual,” Josef said on Wednesday, May 3.
However, he explained that there might indeed be restrictions in certain areas for tourists. “There are areas that are really restricted, limited, and free areas, and that is applied everywhere in the world when there are high-level conferences,” Josef claimed.
For example, during the visits of the heads of state, there will definitely be adjustments for welcoming, security, and others. “So it will be adjusted on the field, tourists may be asked to give way to the visits of certain heads of state which may not last long,” he added.
During the 42nd ASEAN Summit, delegates consisting of heads of state, heads of institutions, and the media will visit a number of locations. Among them are Komodo Airport, hotels where events are held, Batu Cermin Cave, and Puncak Waringin.
The delegates will also be given the opportunity to explore the beauty of Labuan Bajo through available tour packages, such as Komodo National Park, Batu Cermin Cave, Puncak Waringin, Water Front and Cunca Wulang, Rangkong Cave, Kope Oles Todo Kongkol Studio, and Liang Ndara and Melo Tourism Villages.
