TEMPO.CO, Boyolali - The number of deaths caused by a road accident involving eight vehicles at the Semarang-Solo toll road in Central Java on Friday dawn has increased to eight people. Police’s initial investigation determined that the brake failure of a truck carrying iron was the main cause of the pile-up.
This was announced by the Boyolali Police traffic department spokesperson adj. Commissioner M Herdi Pratama to journalists on April 14.
"Our initial suspicion is that the cause of the accident was that the driver of the iron transport truck was barely awake but it is also suspected that the brakes failed so the truck failed to stop," said Herdi
According to an eyewitness who drove a car carrier truck that was also involved in the road accident, Irwan, said he heard someone screaming about brake failure originating from the truck that initially caused the accident.
“The co-driver tirelessly yelled that their brakes had failed,” said Irwan who recalled the incident happening so fast that the accident was unavoidable. The truck eventually crashed into a passenger car and six other wide-load trucks that were parked at the side of the toll road.
