TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture has urged parents to complete their children's basic immunization to create a quality generation.

Parents should check their infants' immunization records, Sustainable Development Expert Staff at the Ministry Agus Suprapto said on Sunday.

If need be, they can consult the closest midwife, nurse, or doctor by bringing Mother and Child Health or KIA book, he added.

The ministry encourages the improvement of basic immunization coverage to support sustainable development in health, he explained.

"The ministry encourages parents to play an active role in completing children's basic immunization for sustainable development in health for all infants," Suprapto said.

Parents can visit the nearest integrated health post (posyandu) or public health center (puskesmas) to receive basic immunization for infants, he added.

"Come to the nearest posyandu or puskesmas and immediately follow the immunization program on schedule, urge infants to participate in immunization routinely," he said.

The ministry also supports the Polio National Immunization Sub Week (Sub PIN) in Purwakarta, West Java, following the discovery of polio cases in the region.

"The ministry continues to strengthen education to remind the public of the importance of improving vaccination coverage to prevent the spread of poliovirus," he noted.

Low polio vaccination coverage can increase the risk of spreading the dangerous virus, especially because this virus can trigger permanent disability in unvaccinated children.

Meanwhile, Purwarkarta Regional Secretary Norman Nugraha said that the Polio National Child Immunization Sub Week will be held in Purwakarta District.

To anticipate the appearance of diseases preventable by immunization, his group has coordinated with representatives from WHO Indonesia and Health Ministry.

"The arrival of WHO is expected to be able to improve immunization coverage in Purwakarta and implementation of Polio Sub PIN in Purwakarta can be successful with coverage of more than 95 percent," Nugraha said.
