TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transportation expert from Gadjah Mada University, Muhammad Zudhy Irawan, encouraged Jakarta bus operator Transjakarta to integrate services with online motorcycle taxis or online ojek to ease access to public transportation.
“This integration has the potential to increase the number of public transportation,” said Zudhy as quoted from Antara, Thursday, March 9.
According to him, Transjakarta needs to speed up its integration with the online ojek service so as to support its target to increase passenger numbers to 1.5 million per day in 2024 while adding 6,960 units based on Jakarta Transportation Agency data.
At present, TransJakarta only has 4,700 fleets with a passenger capacity of 1.2 million per day.
Zudhy argued that Transjakarta can learn from the integration of the online ride-hailing platform Gojek and Commuter Line or KRL operated by PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) through the development of GoTransit feature.
With the feature, users can order online transportation services to and from train stations as well as purchase train tickets directly from the online ojek app. This collaboration increased digital transactions of train tickets by 300 percent, based on Gojek’s data.
Additionally, he emphasized that people need to be encouraged to use public transportation to reduce congestion in the capital city, especially since people's activities are now back to normal after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Public transportation must improve services to make it easier for people to access them,” Zudhy said.
