TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Institute for Development of Economic and Finance (INDEF) Executive Director Tauhid Ahmad revealed that 82 percent of small and traditional fishermen face difficulty acquiring access to subsidized fuel (BBM) and subsidized LPG.
This was revealed in the latest survey conducted by INDEF and fisherman organizations during the April to May 2021 period across 10 provinces, and 25 cities, which involved 5292 small and traditional fishermen as respondents.
"82 percent of the problem is indeed difficulty in accessing fuel, which is followed by 21.57 percent facing difficulties accessing the market, and 2 percent found it hard to access financing," he elaborated in a public discussion on March 8.
He said the distribution of energy subsidies remains a serious issue that needs to be addressed. During the same occasion, the Executive Secretary of the National Team for the Acceleration of Poverty Reduction (TNP2K), Suprayoga Hadi also stated that the distribution of energy subsidies, especially fuel, and LPG, is still missing its target.
He referred to the national socioeconomic survey data (Susenas) conducted by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in 2021. The data showed that households with the lowest socio-economic conditions only enjoyed 33.1 percent of LPG subsidies. While 66.9 percent of energy subsidies were enjoyed by more financially-capable groups.
