TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Low-cost carrier Lion Air strategic corporate communications officer Danang Mandala Prihantoro's official statement on Sunday said 138 passengers of the canceled flight JT-693 caused by a passenger’s mobile phone catching fire, had been directed to another flight.
“Through a process that needed a significant amount of time, Lion Air decided to operate a different aircraft to continue the operation of JT-693,” said Danang in a written statement on February 26.
As reported earlier, the initial flight departing from Eltari Airport in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, and destined to land at the Juanda Surabaya Airport in East Java had to be delayed after a mobile phone owned by one of the 138 passengers caught fire.
This incident happened as the aircraft was in its initial ‘pushback’ phase. This incident caused one of the passengers to open the emergency exit window on the left side of the Boeing 737-900ER without the permission of the flight crew.
