TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said this year’s target in the tourism and creative economy sector doubled and that couldn't be achieved with the old regulations. Thus, he supported the Government Regulation in Lieu of Law or Perpu No. 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation dated December 30, 2022.
“This year's target is no joke, that's why we need a locomotive. To achieve this, we need acceleration. It has to be in a modern way, and we hope that this Perpu will present permit processes that are easy, fast, and precise,” said Sandiaga in a written statement on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
On December 30, 2022, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo issued the Perpu to replace the Job Creation Law that had been declared conditionally unconstitutional on November 25, 2021, by the Constitutional Court. The government was also demanded to amend it within two years.
Meanwhile, the minister claimed that the lieu of law could make permits in the tourism and creative economy business sector run in a transparent, accountable, effective, and efficient manner.
According to Sandiaga Uno, the enactment of the Perpu is a strategic measure to anticipate global economic uncertainty as it could encourage job creation and ensure that every citizen gets a job, empowers cooperatives and MSMEs, and changes various arrangements related to ease of doing business.
