TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Vietnam National Team Coach, Park Hang-Seo does not want the upcoming second-leg match of the 2022 AFF Cup semi-final against Indonesia to be his last.
The match between Vietnam and Indonesia is set at the My Dinh national stadium, Hanoi, Monday, January 9, 2023, starting at 19:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time). It is the semi-final second leg match after the last first leg ended with a draw 0-0.
Park Hang-Seo wants his team to keep going. "If we lose in this second match, it will be my last match. However, if not, we still have the final match. Therefore, we will do our best," he said in a press conference before the match in VFF Office, Hanoi, Sunday.
The 2022 AFF Cup is going to be Park Hang-Seo's final tournament with the Vietnam national team, after deciding not to renew his contract with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), which ended in January 2023.
However, the South Korean tactician did not want to leave in a rush and end his time with the Vietnam National Team.
Park would not let Indonesia get rid of Vietnam from the top four phases in the second leg match of the 2022 AFF Cup.
"Therefore, the match against Indonesia is also important for me," said the 64-year-old coach.
The team's sharpness and effectiveness are most important for Park when in the match against Indonesia.
This was because his team wasn't able to score a goal and ended with a draw against Indonesia in the previous first-leg match, Friday, January 6, at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta.
The situation slightly harms Vietnam's chances to qualify for the finals. While Indonesia only requires a draw with a goal to advance for the final.
Park also emphasized that he didn't mind when his team scored a goal, whether in the first or second half.
"The important thing is to score a goal. I have told the team, whether it's in the first or second half, the important thing is to score goals," said the coach who led Vietnam to win the 2018 AFF Cup and win a gold medal at the 2019-2021 SEA Games.
The 2022 AFF Cup semifinal second-leg match between Vietnam and Indonesia will start at 19:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time).
Based on a page from 11v11.com, the Indonesian and Vietnam national teams have met each other 26 times since 1991. Indonesia won eight times, lost seven times, and the other matches ended in a draw.
In the last six years, Indonesia has always had difficulties facing Vietnam. Since December 7, 2016, Indonesia ended with a draw twice and lost twice when they played against Vietnam.
Shin Tae-Yong has never won a match against Vietnam under Park Hang-Seo.
