TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo neither denies nor confirms the plan to reshuffle his government cabinet. Jokowi provides a short response to the issue that has emerged several times, especially with regard to ministers from the NasDem Party.
"Just wait, just wait," Jokowi said when asked about the possibility of a reshuffle this year in Tanah Abang Market, Central Jakarta, Monday, January 2, 2023.
When questioned whether the cabinet shake-up will come from NasDem, he gave the same answer. "Just wait."
Previously, the issue of changing ministers in the cabinet arose after the NasDem Party, a member of the coalition party supporting the current government, announced that it endorses opposition former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan as the 2024 presidential candidate.
Deputy Chairman of the NasDem Party, Ahmad Ali, had earlier underlined that there was no reason for his party to withdraw from the coalition. He asserted NasDem's commitment to guarding Jokowi-Ma'ruf until 2024.
According to Ali, his party has never violated this commitment. “We will be in the coalition until 2024, that's a commitment,” Ali told Tempo on Sunday, December 25, 2022.
Ali also said the cabinet reshuffle is the prerogative right of President Jokowi. If the NasDem ministers are reshuffled because they are unable to carry out their duties, then it will be purely for reasons of cabinet needs, rather than political reasons.
