TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi inaugurated Manggarai Station Phase I today, December 26, 2022. He emphasized that the train is alternative transportation that is increasingly in demand by the public and can reach various places more quickly and affordably.
“Today, I will inaugurate the development of Manggarai Station which is one of the stations with the busiest traffic in Indonesia. Every day, this station serves KRL stops for Jakarta Kota, Tanah Abang, and Bekasi with very heavy traffic and passengers,” he said at Manggarai Station, South Jakarta, Monday, December 26, 2022.
Since 2016, he went on, the government has developed Manggarai Station as one of the central stations in Jakarta. This includes being part of the Manggarai-Cikarang double track project with the addition of tracks from 7 to 14.
According to him, the station development was necessary to boost the efficiency and headway of train travel and increase people’s accessibility and mobility from Jakarta to its vicinity and vice versa.
“And adding airport train services to Soekarno-Hatta Airport, and also integrating various other modes of public transportation such as Transjakarta, online motorcycle taxis, bajaj, and others,” he said.
Jokowi underlined that the government will continue to build and develop the railway infrastructure, especially to connect densely populated areas, either by commuter line, LRT, MRT, fast trains, and airport trains, and the construction of double tracks.
