Transjakarta Doubles 'Pink Bus' Unit to Prevent Sexual Harassment Cases

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - City-owned transportation Transjakarta in a statement on Wednesday announced the addition of 10 of its pink-colored buses dedicated to female passengers. Head of Transjakarta Corporate Secretary Division Anang Rizkani Noor said the fleet was added to prevent sexual harassment cases in the future.
“The provision of these pink buses is hoped to greatly reduce the risk of sexual harassment. The new addition adds to the existing 10,” Anang wrote in a statement on November 30.
The new fleet is hoped to serve the passengers as soon as this week and will operate from 05:00 - 21:00 Indonesia Western Time (WIB) under a regular tariff of Rp3,500.
The company has also beefed up the number of cameras and officials on standby. It has also made available a 24-hour complaint service accompanied by a quick-response team that will handle sexual harassment reports.
"We have deployed 1,800 officers who stand guard on buses to focus on preventing and handling harassment cases," said PT TransJakarta Director of Operations and Safety, Yoga Adiwinarto in Jakarta, Tuesday, November 8.
