TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo on Friday asserted his intentions to overhaul the police institution’s public service quality. He mentioned the direct public complaint through the popular chat app Whatsapp as one of the solutions.
He also said that an order has been issued for police chiefs to open such a service with the goal of putting down the online rumors that suggest a police complaint will not be followed up without “inside help.”
“Members of the public who knows or doesn’t have relations with a cop must receive equal treatment. These are the aspects we will fix for the future,” said Listyo.
He asserted that the police institution under his leadership will get a cultural and structural overhaul. His attempts to improve the public perception of the police institution were first seen by the eradication of manual traffic ticketing and the introduction of full-electronic ticketing, which was seen as a move to reduce street bribes.
He also specifically mentioned the recent drug case involving high-ranking police personnel – which is undergoing investigation – and strictly warned personnel that it should be the last case incriminating police.
