TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Paralympic sports shooter Bolo Triyanto became the first Indonesian para-athlete to qualify for the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, France.

Triyanto qualified for the Paralympics after bagging a silver medal in the R5-Mixed 10m Air Rifle Prone SH2 number at the 2022 WSPS World Championship in Al Ain, the United Arab Emirates, Monday .

He secured 252.9 points and was placed second after Ukrainian Paralympic sports shooter Vasyl Kovalchuk, who pocketed 254.6 points and also qualified for the 2024 Paralympics.

"We are glad that Bolo (Triyanto) became the first para-shooting athlete to snatch a medal in a world championship and qualified for the Paris Paralympics because he achieved the second place," Indonesia National Paralympic Committee Deputy Secretary General Rima Ferdianto told ANTARA on Tuesday.

He expressed optimism that Triyanto's success would be emulated by other Indonesian Para-athletes competing to secure points to qualify for the Paralympics.

"In the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, 23 para-athletes qualify. We hope that more Indonesian athletes will qualify for and bag more medals in the 2024 Paris (Paralympics), so that Indonesia's ranking would increase from our earlier record," Ferdianto affirmed.

In the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, Indonesia was ranked 43rd, with nine medals.

The Indonesian contingent bagged one gold medal in the women's doubles para-badminton by Leani Ratri Oktila and Khalimatus Sadiyah and one gold medal in the mixed doubles para-badminton event by Leani Ratri Oktila and Hary Susanto.

In addition, one silver medal was bagged in the women's singles para-badminton by Leani Ratri Oktila, a silver medal was pocketed by Dheva Anrimushti in the men's singles para-badminton event, and a silver medal in the women’s para-weightlifting was secured by Ni Nengah Widiasih.
