Indonesia Encourages Amazon Web Services to Invest in Education Center

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in an official statement on Tuesday said the Indonesian government has offered the ease of doing business for US tech firm Amazon Web Services (AWS) in helping build an education center facility in Indonesia.
In a meeting with AWS delegates in Nusa Dua, Bali, Airlangga said Amazon’s support in increasing the capacity of Indonesia’s human resources will be beneficial for both parties. The government has also offered to facilitate the tech firm for the ease of investment in Indonesia.
"The Indonesian government also offers AWS to invest in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) focused on the digital economy to support digital transformation in Indonesia," said Airlangga in a written statement, Tuesday, November 15.
Vice President for Global Public Policy Amazon Web Services Michael Punke in response said he is committed to continuing to support Indonesia's digital transformation, by building and operating Data Centers in Indonesia (for the Asia Pacific region).
He said the investment value to support Indonesia's digital transformation will likely amount to US$5 billion for a period of 15 years.
During the meeting, Minister Airlangga was accompanied by the Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), the Secretary of Coordinating Minister for the Economy, the General Chair of (the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry) KADIN, the Deputy Chair of KADIN III for Maritime Affairs, Investment, and International Relations, and Assistant Deputy for Economic Cooperation in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
Michael Punke was accompanied by the Head of Public Policy Asia Pacific & Japan AWS and the Head of Public Policy Indonesia AWS.
