TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - The flooding on the KM 24 of the Jakarta-Merak Toll Road on Sunday afternoon, November 14, 2022, was reportedly caused by the overflow of the Sabi River in Tangerang.
The marketing and communication department head at the toll road operator Jasa Marga, Irra Susiyanti, said the flood following the river overflow also inundated a number of areas in Tangerang and its surroundings.
“[The inundated toll road is] the impact of high rainfall and the overflow of the Sabi River,” said Irra in Tangerang, Sunday, November 13, 2022, as quoted from Antara.
The inundation generated traffic density on the Jakarta-Merak Toll Road towards Bitung. “In the opposite direction from Tomang, all lanes can be crossed by vehicles,” she added.
The water level in KM 24 reached 20-30 centimeters. Consequently, the left and middle lanes of the road were jammed. “The water level has been around 20 centimeters high since 15:30,” said Irra.
To tackle flooding, Jasa Marga constructed several dikes to prevent the river from overflowing. “For long-term anticipative measures, Jasa Marga will build a concrete embankment,” she said.
