Jokowi Says Putin, Zelensky May Attend G20 Summit Virtually

8 November 2022 16:28 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesia’s President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may virtually attend G20 Summit in Bali. Their physical presence, he added, will be possible depending on the situation.

“A few days ago, I spoke on the phone with President Putin and President Zelenskiy, and they said they will attend [physically] if conditions allow," said the President as broadcasted on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.

However, he did not specify the condition that will allow the two leaders of the conflicting countries to land in Bali on November 15, 2022, for the high-level summit. But he did not mind their absence.

“Yes, I had asked them (Putin and Zelensky). They said that they will be present if the conditions allow. But if not, President Zelenskyy will be present virtually,” he remarked.

To date, he claimed 17 leaders will take part in G20, including US President Joe Biden and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping.

“I think in a normal condition, there are usually 17-18 leaders [attending the summit]. [But, it's now] in abnormal conditions. The world is facing difficulties. All countries are dealing with challenges. If there are up to that number (17-18 leaders attending the summit), I think it's very good,” Jokowi said.
