TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated Thursday, November 3, that he will not attend the G20 summit in Bali if Russian President Vladimir Putin takes part.
Zelensky made the statement before reporters after talks in Kyiv with Greece's President that he was invited by Indonesian President Joko Jokowi Widodo to the international summit, which is slated to take place on November 15-16, 2022.
“My personal position and the position of Ukraine was that if the leader of the Russian Federation takes part, then Ukraine will not take part. We'll see what it will be like in the future,” Zelensky said.
He claimed he had a call with Jokowi and discussed preparations for the summit and the Black Sea grain deal. “Ukraine is ready to continue to be the guarantor of global food security,” he said on his Twitter, Thursday, November 3.
On Wednesday, November 2, 2022, the Indonesian President also had a phone conversation with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin as there is no confirmation regarding the latter’s presence at the G20 Summit in Bali.
Jokowi, in his tweet, said he spoke with the Russian president and discussed the Black Sea Grains Initiative. But he did not mention Putin's participation in the G20. “[We] welcome Russia's decision to rejoin the initiative,” he said on Wednesday.
