TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Maritime Affairs and Investments Coordinating Minister Luhut Pandjaitan said that the government is currently formulating a new legal basis for domestic product spending in the form of Public Goods and Services Draft Bill (RUU).
"Let's collectively realize our commitment towards this affirmative action in order to gain 1.5 to 1.7 percent economic effect and absorb 2 million employment," said Luhut in the Business Matching Event on Friday, October 7, 2022, Antaranews reported.
The draft Bill will be one of many indicators of the country's bureaucratic reform assessment.
In addition, Luhut also applauded the achievement of the domestic product spending goal, which had exceeded its intended target. The realization of domestic product spending as of October 5 has reached Rp487 trillion, exceeding the Rp400 trillion target that was proclaimed.
"At the beginning, we targeted Rp400 trillion for PDN spending, but now Rp487 trillion has been realized from the Rp950 trillion commitment," he said.
The urgency in spending more on domestic products was mentioned by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on June 14 who questioned why the country's State Budget – which comes from taxpayer’s money – is being spent on imported products rather than domestic products.
"This is the State and Regional Budget we are talking about. But it is spent on imported goods. Other countries will benefit from the added value and jobs," said President Jokowi on June 14, 2022.
