Police Dismiss Data Leak As Hoax

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) dismissed reports about the leak of 26 million data of the police institution and claimed it was a hoax. Polri spokesperson Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo claimed that the data that was reported to be leaked was outdated.
"I've asked about this and after it was examined by the cyber team, it is indeed a hoax. It is was data from 2016," Dedi said on Friday, September 23, 2022.
Dedi argued that there was no relevance between the leaked data. For example, Dedi explained that the data that was claimed to be from Central Kalimantan Regional Police does not match with the data from Metro Jaya Regional Police.
"The data can be obtained on the internet. The data from the Central Kalimantan Regional Police is not connected to the Metro Police," Dedi said.
Nevertheless, Dedi claimed that an investigation will be conducted by the Metro Jaya cyber unit in an attempt to track the perpetrators behind the data leak.
The initial report about the alleged data breach came from documents in the Breached Forum which was uploaded by a hacker identifying itself as “Meki” on September 21, 2022. The document was titled "26M Database National Police Identity of Indonesia Republic".
