VP Ma'ruf Amin Delivers Speech on Unity, Diversity

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Ma’ruf Amin in an event held by the Confucianism community in Kalimantan reminded the public not to be divided in nursing diversity amidst technological development.
“As technology advances, the world changes rapidly, the future gets harder to predict, the threat of non-traditional evolution. Because of this, we must maintain harmony and unity in diversity, and not be divided,” said the Vice President, during the celebration of the 2573rd commemoration of Prophet Kong Zi in Confucianism in West Kalimantan, on September 22.
In his speech, Amin also asserted that conflicts will only bring disharmony and backtrack society. He also explained that every religious belief in Indonesia, including Confucianism, must understand that the country is diverse.
"Indonesia is not the only plural country in the world, but our nation's journey has recorded various important events that prove that the Indonesian people view diversity as a wealth as well as a gift from God that brings a lot of goodness," he said.
Ma’ruf Amin also reiterated that democracy has been successfully practiced in Indonesia and is hopeful that it will continue to strive to improve the country’s democracy.
