Jokowi Welcomes Philippine President Marcos Jr. in Bogor Palace

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo welcomes the arrival of Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr at Bogor Palace, West Java, on September 5, 2022. This is the first meeting after the son of the former Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr was sworn in as the President on June 30, 2022.
Marcos Jr arrived at Bogor Palace at 10 a.m. with First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos. The two leaders then planted a tree. Tree planting on the grounds of the palace is a usual activity during such an official visit.
“It’s ironwood tree, one of the most famous trees in the Kalimantan forest,” said the host in a live broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.
Jokowi was accompanied by six of his ministers, viz. Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud Md, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno, and State Secretary Pratikno.
Meanwhile, Marcos Jr came with seven officials. Among them were Foreign Minister Enrique Manalo, Finance Minister Benjamin Diokno, and Trade Minister Alfredo Pascual.
After introducing their respective delegates, Jokowi continued the bilateral meeting with Marcos Jr which is still going on until 11:20 local time.
