Victims of Truck Crash in Bekasi Raise to 33

1 September 2022 15:52 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Traffic Directorate of Metro Jaya Police said the number of people injured after a truck crashed near a bus stop and vehicles outside state elementary school or SDN Kota Baru II and III in Bekasi of West Java Province increased to 33.

“The number of victims is 33 people, 10 of them died,” said the Police Traffic Director Senior Commissioner Latif Usman in Jakarta, Thursday, September 1, 2022, as quoted from Antara.

The victims were rushed to two city hospitals, namely Ananda Hospital and Bekasi Regional General Hospital.

Based on initial information, the truck allegedly had a brake failure and hit a telecommunications tower and a number of vehicles parked on the sidewalk of Jalan Sultan Agung. One box car was hit by the telecommunications tower which collapsed after being hit by the truck.

Bekasi City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Hengki said the driver of the truck with the license plate N 8051 had been detained at the local police station. The driver, EA, 30 years old, could not be questioned yet because he is still shocked by the fatal crash.

Police had conducted a urine test on the truck driver. “The result is negative, maybe it was a human error or maybe the brakes failed,” said the Police Traffic Directorate official Brigadier General Aan Suhanan, in a written statement, Wednesday night. August 31, 2022.
