Indonesian Vehicles Difficult to Export: KPBB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Committee for the Elimination of Leaded Gasoline (KPBB) said that there were indications that it would be difficult to export Indonesian vehicles. The committee said this is because the Indonesian automotive industry has not yet met the Euro 5 emission standard.

KPBB member Alfred Sitorus even said that there are some Indonesian vehicle brands that can no longer be exported to several countries.

"Other countries have implemented the Euro 5, so there are indications that vehicles from Indonesia will find it very difficult to get exported as they do not meet Euro 5 emission standards," he said at a press conference, Thursday, August 25.

Alfred also said that the KPBB has often encouraged the government and the automotive industry to immediately implement regulations related to the acceleration of the Euro 4 standard. He added that the national automotive industry must take a new leap, so that Indonesia can compete with countries that have adopted the Euro 5 standard or Euro 6.

"That is the real reason for Indonesia's impasse in exporting vehicles overseas," said Alfred Sitorus.

Meanwhile, KPBB executive director Ahmad Safrudin said that the solution for the Indonesian automotive industry to compete in the export market requires the president's role in supporting emission standards in the country.

"Secondly, there must be a serious effort from the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister to provide fuels that match the Euro 4 standard vehicle technology. But for exports, prepare Euro 6 standard fuel," Ahmad said.
