TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economy Airlangga Hartarto said the budget of the MRT Jakarta phase 2 construction project from Roundabout HI in Central Jakarta to Ancol in North Jakarta had swelled to Rp26 trillion.
“There is a hike in project costs from Rp22.5 trillion to Rp26 trillion,” said Airlangga when met at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Wednesday, August 24, 2022.
He explained that the budget of the national strategic project increased due to the more complex construction of the underground rail than the MRT phase 1 connecting HI Roundabout and Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta and unstable land, especially in the Old City or Kota Tua area.
Of the 15.7-kilometer track of MRT phase 1, 5.7 km is an underground track and 10 kilometers is an elevated track. Meanwhile, the phase 2 project spans 12.3 kilometers and is entirely underground.
In addition, President Jokowi also ordered the final station in West Ancol to be planned immediately considering issues of land acquisition. The latter also asked the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning and Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to find alternative areas for the final stop or depot.
MRT Jakarta phase 2 project continues the north-south corridor of MRT phase 1 which has been operating since 2019. With the presence of MRT phase 2, the travel time from Lebak Bulus Grab Station to Kota Station will be just around 45 minutes.
