TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria is appreciative towards Baim Wong's decision to cancel his acquisition of the Citayam Fashion Week's (CFW) Intellectual Property Rights (HaKI). Riza said that the place and activity is something that should be owned by the public, not individuals nor private companies.
The deputy governor said that it is wrong for the private sector to claim the Citayam Fashion Week.
"I personally have also said from the beginning, that the place [and activity] belong to the public, the people, to all of us. No one should claim it," he said in Jakarta, Tuesday, July 26.
However, Riza respects Baim Wong's intention behind his move, which is to help promote the movement. However, acquiring the CFW's intellectual rights is not the correct way to do it.
"I think perhaps that he means well—to foster and help [the teenagers], with no desire to have control over it. Perhaps he could find another way by not claiming the IPR."
According to Riza, the best way that Baim Wong can do that is by continuing to foster the youths dubbed as the 'Sudirman, Citayam, Bojonggede, Depok' (SCBD) teenagers and direct them towards a more productive path.
Baim Wong and Paula Verhoeven had applied to register the Citayam Fashion Week (CFW) as an Intellectual Property Rights (HAKI) of their company, PT Tiger Wong Entertainment. They submitted the registration to the Intellectual Property Database (PDKI).
Their move received heavy criticisms. The couple canceled the registration and made a public apology.
