TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The tourism industry through one of its main drivers, travel agents, is beginning to show a positive trend in the first semester of 2022 by recording flight ticket sales transactions amounting to IDR 1.7 trillion in total.
The chairman of the Indonesian Travel Agent Association (Astindo) DPP Pauline Suharno, revealed that the growth of travel agents has improved and is increasing consistently, Bisnis.com reported.
"Airline ticket sales increased from around IDR 450 billion [in January 2022], to IDR 1.7 trillion in June," Pauline said on Monday, July 25, 2022.
Pauline, who also holds the position of Secretary General of the Indonesian Tourism Industry Association (GIPI), said that domestic tourists dominate airfare purchases.
This achievement is in line with the number of school holidays and corporations starting to hold various activities. "There are still more domestic tourists, especially because of school holidays and many corporations have held activities," Pauline continued.
Referring to data from the Central Statistics Agency, as of May 2022, the number of domestic air transport passengers rose by 40.41 percent month-to-month/mtm, amounting to 19.8 million people. Meanwhile, the number of international passengers was recorded at 1.1 million people.
Meanwhile, the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in May 2022 reached 212,330 visits, an increase of 91.19 percent (month-to-month/mtm). Even though there has been an increase, travel agents are still constrained by the high price of airline tickets and the lack of flight frequency.
