Indonesia Logs Almost 3,000 New COVID-19 Cases in One Day

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise. On Thursday, July 7, the COVID-19 Task Force reported 2,881 new infections over the last 24 hours.
On Wednesday, the daily case number amounted to 2,743 cases. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, there were 2,577 additional cases.
With the addition of today’s case number, the country’s COVID-19 total tally reached 6,103,552 since the onset of the pandemic.
The Task Force also reported that six more patients died, pushing the total death toll to 156,776. The number of patients who recovered from the disease also increased by 1,877, bringing the total number of survivors to 5,9227,730.
To date, the active case number stood at 19,046, up by 998 cases from the previous day. The authority conducted 76,507 test specimens today.
Jakarta contributed the highest number of daily cases with 1476 new cases, followed by West Java with 612 cases, Banten with 351 cases, and East Java with 169 cases. Other provinces recorded new cases of under 100.
COVID-19 transmission has increased again which is allegedly due to the outbreak of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants which are first detected in Indonesia last month.
Despite high numbers of new cases dominated in Java, the government has not yet decided to raise the status of COVID-19 public mobility restrictions (PPKM). All regions in Java and Bali are still under Level 1 PPKM.
