TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The President of Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT), Ibnu Khajar, apologized for the alleged embezzlement of public donations. The case was revealed in Tempo Magazine’s July 2, 2022 edition, which made the rounds on social media.
“On behalf of ACT, we apologize profusely to the community, perhaps some people are not comfortable with the news that is currently circulating. Secondly, we would like to thank Tempo Magazine for the report. Above all, the news has become a valuable lesson for all of us,” said Ibnu at a press conference at ACT HQ, Menara 165, South Jakarta on Monday, July 4, 2022.
Tempo revealed there were mismanagement and embezzlement of donations committed by ACT. The humanitarian organization reportedly had fallen into a financial crisis since the end of the last year. The public donations were suspected of being used for the personal interests of its executives and to fulfill their lavish lifestyle.
Responding to Tempo Magazine’s reports, Ibnu claimed not all of the reports were true. He admitted that there were some stalled programs, yet denied that it was due to misappropriation of funds.
He also claimed that ACT's current finance is in good condition. He rebutted the report saying that the foundation’s finances were in crisis due to the alleged embezzlement.
According to Ibnu, ACT's financial reports received the unqualified opinion (WTP) based on audits. “The financial reports from 2005 to 2020 that have received WTP predicate have been published on our website, as part of transparency to the public,” he said.
