TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Nahdlatul Ulama’s (NU) youth wing GP Ansor urged Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan to revoke Holywings bar's operational permit in the capital following its latest promotion deal which was considered blasphemous.
“We urge the honorable Governor of Jakarta, Bapak Anies Baswedan, to revoke Holywings’ operational permit in all areas of Jakarta,” said the Jakarta GP Ansor Head Muhammad Ainul Yakin in his statement on Monday, June 27, 2022.
According to Ainul, Jakarta GP Ansor would continue to call for the closure of the popular nightclub located across the capital city as a form of Muslims' disappointment with the bar management.
As widely reported, the bar’s promotional campaign which offered free liquor for visitors whose names Muhammad and Maria met with public protest. Consequently, they faced a police report under the charge of blasphemy.
GP Ansor appreciated the police for moving quickly to investigate and identify suspects. “However, we demand that the police also examine the company’s management,” Ainul underlined.
Ainul also said Jakarta GP Ansor lamented what the bar management had done which seemed to run away from their responsibilities and just offered apologies via social media. “We urge the owners and management of Holywings to come forward and make a public apology,” he said.
South Jakarta Metro Police on Friday, June 24, named six people, including the creative director and administrators of Holywings Indonesia's social media as suspects in the free liquor deal.
