TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial administration was set to provide free rides of Transjakarta, MRT, and LRT on Wednesday, June 22, which is in coincidence with the 495th Jakarta anniversary day.
The policy is stipulated in the Decree of the Jakarta Transportation Head No. e-0076 of 2022. The agency head Syafrin Liputo instructed Transjakarta, Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), and Light Rail Transit (LRT) to charge Rp0 tickets for a whole day.
Passengers can ride free from 00:00-23:59 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
“Transjakarta BRT and Non-BRT/Feeder, MRT Jakarta, and LRT Jakarta service will be for Rp0 (zero rupiahs),” said Syafrin in the decree issued Tuesday, June 21, 2022.
Additionally, free fares also apply to Microtrans services, flat services, tour buses, Transjakarta cares, and other appointed city transportation modes. All travel costs will be borne by the regional government through a subsidy mechanism.
“The decree of the Jakarta Transportation Agency Head only takes effect on June 22, 2022,” it noted.
The free service in Transjakarta, however, did not apply to its premium service Royaltrans so the ticket fare is still normal at Rp20,000 per person.
Passengers are also asked to keep complying with the COVID-19 health protocols determined in the enforcement of public mobility restrictions or PPKM Level 1 policy.
