Indonesia, Microsoft Sign MoU Towards Digital Transformation

16 June 2022 19:35 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Economic Affairs Coordinating Ministry and tech giant Microsoft signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, June 15, 2022. The MoU oversees cooperation in the field of technological innovation, artificial intelligence, digital literacy, data management, the fourth industrial revolution, and digital economic incubation.

This MoU aims to build Indonesia's technology ecosystem and accelerate Indonesia's digital economy transformation.

Rudy Salahuddin, deputy of Coordination of the Digital Economy, Employment, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises inked the MoU paper with Microsoft Indonesia president director Dharma Simorangkir.

"This partnership is the embodiment of the government's commitment to the private sector to accelerate the national economic recovery and growth, through accelerated digital transformation," said Salahuddin in a written statement on Thursday, June 16, 2022.

A number of programs will be the direct outcome of this agreement, with one of them being the digital skilling that is meant to fulfill the need for 9 million digital talents up to 2030, or 600,000 people annually. Especially amidst the development of blockchain technology, the internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence, and cloud computing.

Meanwhile, Microsoft Indonesia President Director Dharma Simorangkir said the collaboration with the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs would empower Indonesia's digital economy in an inclusive manner, with incubation programs for startups and a series of digital skills.

"We are honored to be able to strengthen our partnership with the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy to accelerate the achievement of Digital Indonesia. Armed with more than 25 years of experience in Indonesia, we are ready to maximize our expertise and technology to reach every individual and organization in the country, be it MSMEs, startups, enterprises, government institutions, educational institutions, or others," said Dharma Simorangkir.
