TEMPO.CO, JakartaLabor Party President Said Iqbal confirmed that they will hold simultaneous demonstrations across regions of Indonesia today, June 15, 2022. The rally will be carried out in industrial cities such as Bandung, Makassar, Banjamasin, Banda Aceh, Medan, Batam, Semarang, Surabaya, Ternate, and Ambon.

Iqbal said the action will be centered in the House of Representatives (DPR) building and joined by 10,000 workers voicing five demands related to a number of laws.

“We reject the revision of PPP Law, reject the Omnibus Law - the Job Creation Law, reject the 75-day campaign period as it must be nine months according to the law, urge for the ratification of the bill on protection of domestic workers or RUU PPRT, and reject agricultural liberalization through the WTO,” Iqbal outlined in a written statement, Wednesday, June 15, 2022.

He explained the Labor Party rejected the revision of the drafting of laws and regulations (PPP) because the discussion was held in an abrupt fashion without involving public participation. The revised law was also considered legally flawed.

Iqbal further suspected that it was only aimed at justifying the omnibus law as a method to create laws.

After the number of the PPP Law is issued, Iqbal underlined that the Labor Party will submit a formal and material judicial review to the Constitutional Court.

Previously reported, Iqbal reported the General Election Commission (KPU) to the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) regarding the 2024 general elections’ campaign period which is set at 75 days. He argued that the short campaign period would be detrimental for non-parliamentary parties, such as the Labor Party and other new parties.
