TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) stated that they are investigating food poisoning cases that hit a number of athletes participating in the Indonesia Masters 2022.
On Friday morning, June 10, 2022, PBSI received information from social media that at least five Malaysian athletes and some athletes from other countries who were not mentioned in detail suffered food poisoning after having breakfast.
A spokesman for PBSI, Broto Happy, said the athletes stayed at two hotels, viz. Century Hotel and Fairmont Hotel.
"On food poisoning, we are coordinating with the hotels to find out what the athletes have eaten and where," Broto said in Jakarta on Friday, June 10, 2022.
Broto added that the organizing committee through the hotel catering service only prepared breakfast meals.
PBSI, Broto emphasized, lamented that athletes and managers did not make a report but instead uploaded statements that have not been confirmed yet to social media platforms.
The athletes were rushed to a hospital that does not cooperate with PBSI and the two hotels. "In order to know the cause objectively. They are under medical treatment at Medistra Hospital. We want the athletes to stay focused on the tournament and set aside this slanted news while waiting for the results of the examination by the committee," said Broto.
Although the source of the contamination has not yet been ensured, the Indonesia Masters 2022 organizing committee has taken preventive measures, including urging the two hotels to separate dining locations between tournament delegates and regular visitors.
