TEMPO.CO, Mataram - West Nusa Tenggara or NTB Regional Logistics Agency (Bulog) purchased 5,000 tons of corn from farmers at a price of Rp4,400 per kilogram. The commodity was then delivered to Tulungagung, East Java, with the first shipment of 2,000 tons.
Regional Head of Bulog NTB, Abdul Muis S. Ali, said the purchase was made in Bima of Sumbawa and East Lombok. “Bulog is present when [the price of] farmers' corn is in turmoil,” he said at the NTB Economic Forum on Saturday, May 28, 2022.
With this purchase, Abdul hoped that the private sector would participate in absorbing corn at least equal to Bulog's capacity.
The NTB Provincial Agriculture Agency, meanwhile, said the region potentially produces more than two million tons of dry shelled corn from 400,000 hectares of land.
Previously, NTB Governor Zulkieflimansyah said that the government continued to ensure that farmers' corn on Sumbawa Island could be well absorbed.
“Inshallah (If God is willing), PT DNA will absorb all the farmers' corn,” Zulkieflimansyah mentioned an agriculture firm, adding that it would purchase corn from farmers in Woja and Pekat subdistricts of Dompu Regency at a price of Rp4,400 per kilogram.
