Unknown Acute Hepatitis; Jakarta Deputy Gov Believes in City's Health Facility

10 May 2022 21:22 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria asked the Health Agency to be more attentive to what is actually happening related to the acute hepatitis of unknown origin in the capital.

“It is still being studied. We are waiting for the results on whether the suspicion of acute hepatitis is true or there are other causes for the deaths of the children,” said Riza in a statement at City Hall, Central Jakarta, Monday, May 9, 2022.

Earlier, the Health Ministry reported the deaths of five out of 15 people suspected to have been infected with acute hepatitis of unknown causes. The ministry official said that most of the patients were still suspects.

Riza claimed that Jakarta has been a good city in providing health services and assistance to the community thus far. The capital, he added, has quite great facilities, infrastructure, human resources of doctors, and others, as well as the central government’s support.

The Gerindra politician also hoped that there were no underlying problems that became the cause of the deaths of the children. “That's our common hope. Once again, we hope this [death of children] will not recur. The Health Agency is re-examining what caused it,” Riza said.
