TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director of the state-run railway firm KAI, Didiek Hartantyo in his visit to Pasar Senen Station on Wednesday revealed that the number of train passengers in this year's Eid al-Fitr mass exodus, or 'mudik', has increased significantly. The station currently serves 28 daily trips transporting an average of 20,000 travelers.
"Today, we serve 28 train trips with 20,506 seats. As of now, there are 20,977 tickets sold, which is above 100 percent," said the KAI director on Wednesday, April 27.
He explained that the massive number of passengers is driven by empty seats from passengers getting off at destinations in the middle of a trip, immediately filled by new passengers departing to destinations at the end of a single trip.
On Wednesday, Pasar Senen Station logged 28 trips transporting 20,500 passengers while Gambir Station logged 35 trips daily with 16,782 seats sold every day.
Amidst the ongoing pandemic, KAI has integrated its KAI Access application with the government's Covid-19 tracing app PeduliLindungi.
