Students' Rally; Roads around State Palace Closed Starting 9 A.M

11 April 2022 09:59 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Metro Police will temporarily close the roads around State Palace and National Monument or Monas, Central Jakarta starting at 9 a.m. today, April 11, to anticipate the planned mass demonstration by students.

“We will hold them here (the Horse Statue) because there is a rule that no rally is allowed 500 meters from a vital object,” said Jakarta Traffic Police Director Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo at the Horse Statue, Central Jakarta, Monday, April 11, as quoted from Antara.

According to him, the students’ rally will be centered at the State Palace and the House of Representatives (DPR) or Parliament buildings.

He explained that the police will close Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat from the Horse Statue to Jalan Majapahit-Harmoni, the traffic from Gambir heading to State Palace, and Jalan Veteran I, II, and III. “We will divert the traffic to Jalan Budi Kemuliaan or Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan,” Sambodo added.

As monitored from 7 to 8 a.m., roads around Monas and the Horse Statue were not closed yet by the police with barbed wire or other barriers.

The traffic flow from Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan to the Horse Statue area, Jalan Budi Kemuliaan, Jalan Thamrin, and Jalan Agus Salim was monitored smooth as of 8.30 a.m.

The Jakarta Metro Police deployed hundreds of personnel and around 300 personnel from the Traffic Directorate to secure the students’ rally.
