TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) head Margo Yuwono reported that rice prices fell by 0.23 percent throughout March 2022, compared to the previous month or month to month.
“The rice prices in March 2022 consistently show a decline when compared to February 2022,” said Margo at a press conference at the BPS office, Friday, April 1.
According to the BPS chief, the decrease in the price of one of the basic needs ahead of Ramadan was in line with the decline in the price of farmers' unhulled rice (GKP) by 5.76 percent month-to-month.
This means the price of rice in the milling factories and wholesalers also fell by 0.49 percent and 0.08 percent, respectively.
Based on data from the National Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS), the prices of rice were relatively stable in March 2022. The prices of medium-quality rice and super-quality rice remained at Rp11,800 and Rp13,100 per kilogram, respectively.
Jakarta-owned food security firm PT Food Station Tjipinang earlier said it had prepared 33,000 tons of rice to meet the needs in the capital during Ramadan.
The stock of other basic commodities such as chilies and onions is also expected to be sufficient during the fasting month, which may take place from April 2 to May 2, 2022.
