TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan allowed Jakarta residents to perform religious activities during this year’s Ramadan at mosques while still adhering to the predetermined health protocols against COVID-19.
“I recommend all to conduct worship activities during the holy month of Ramadan [at mosques], unlike the previous years where everything must be done at home,” said Anies at Jakarta City Hall, as reported by Antara, Thursday, March 31.
He explained the COVID-19 pandemic in the capital is now more under control and is supported by high vaccination coverage so that it is possible for the city administration to relax the restrictions.
However, Anies also suggested people break the Ramadan fast at home to anticipate the risk of virus transmission.
“With or without the pandemic, let’s break the fast at home. We all know that there is always a risk, so it is recommended to break the fast at home,” he underlined.
Anies Baswedan further reminded the public to keep complying with the health protocols in order to prevent a spike in COVID-19 cases. “So that during Ramadan and after Eid al-Fitr, there will be no significant surge in cases. By Eid, the rules will be evaluated again,” he said.
