TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, will only be present on Sunday to watch the MotoGP race that is currently held at the Mandalika Circuit in Lombok, and will be absent in the free practice and qualifying sessions.
Tempo’s source at the Presidential Palace confirmed this on Friday, “[He] will be present on Sunday,” as the President is scheduled to attend other events on the same day.
This corresponds to his initial statement on Wednesday when Jokowi opened the MotoGP parade at the capital city of Jakarta.
The race will feature a variety of classes such as the main prototype racing class MotoGP, and other lower classes Moto2, Moto3, and the Asia Talent Cup (ATC) that uses motorcycle units similar to Moto3.
The Mandalika race scheduled to be aired at 14:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB), marking the return of the international racing series to Indonesia after 25 years. The Indonesian GP was held at Sentul Circuit in West Java in 1996 and 1997.
Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno announced that 60 thousand tickets for the race day had been sold out.
