TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI), said that two upcoming prestigious tournaments could be attended by spectators, at limited capacity. The tournaments are Indonesia Masters and Indonesia Open 2022, which are scheduled to be held at Istora Senayan.
The BWF Super 750 and Super 1000 tournaments are set to take place on June 7-12 and June 14-19, respectively.
"After the pandemic, these are the biggest badminton tournaments in the country," PP PBSI director of tournament and refereeing Mimi Irawan told Antara, Wednesday, March 9.
Mimi said the number of spectators allowed in the arena would depend on government regulations. She said that if full capacity is not possible, then 50 percent or 75 percent would be appreciated.
"This can give the audience the opportunity to enjoy badminton matches again. But we are well compliant with government regulations," said Mimi.
This opportunity came following the Home Affairs Minister's Instruction No.15/2022. It stipulates that all sports competitions held in the PPKM area level 1-3 to have spectators.
PBSI appreciates the rule. "Spectators are an important element in any sporting event," said Broto Happy, head of PR and Media. "Of course, while still adhering to health protocols."
