TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Communications and Informatics (Kominfo) Ministry Secretary-General, Mira Tayyiba, said three main issues highlighted by Indonesia in the G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) Forum will help boost investment growth in the digital economy sector.
The issues are digital connectivity and post-pandemic recovery, digital skills and digital literacy, as well as cross-border data flows.
“Potential is potential. It has no value if there is no realization. So what the government does through this G20 forum is proof that we are making efforts to realize this potential,” said Mira at a press conference in Jakarta Pullman Hotel, Tuesday, March 8.
Mira said Indonesia has enormous digital potential due to its huge market of internet users. The potential can be seen from the significant surge in internet penetration during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the outbreak, five Indonesian start-ups even managed to boost their valuations to be unicorns in line with the rapid digital growth. However, Mira opined that the great digital potential could not be fully reached without strengthening connectivity.
“So what is being done is to whether accelerate the development or enhance networks with other countries. As the connectivity is strengthened, people will be more confident in Indonesia’s journey of digital growth leading to more investment,” said Mira.
