TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential Office (KSP) expert staffer Wandy Tuturoong on Friday explained that the government will not initiate the construction of the new capital, Nusantara, although the New Capital City Act (UU IKN) has been ratified by President Joko Widodo under Law No.3/2022.
“The construction project will wait for derivatives such as the IKN Authority presidential regulation, the presidential decree on the authority leader, and other main plans,” said Wandy to Tempo, February 18.
According to him, the government aims at issuing a series of regulations between March and April of this year, which will be followed by the election of the IKN Authority and the basic construction processes.
Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa on Thursday stated that Jokowi ratified the New Capital Act and it was passed on Tuesday, February 15, which will mark the city’s construction in East Kalimantan.
He also added that the IKN will be constructed using the mindset of “a global city for all,” which will highlight the start of a new civilization for Indonesia. He added that with the addition of Nusantara as its name, the new capital will represent a concept of unity and accommodate Indonesia’s richness in diversity.
The New Capital Act will be a regional government on par with a provincial government. Bappenas said the special government was formed to respond to the current digital development. Bappenas expert staffer Diani Sadia Wati said this concept will not go against the constitution.
