TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - East Kalimantan governor Isran Noor in a press conference on Wednesday revealed President Joko Widodo’s plan which involves setting up camp and spending a night at the future new capital city’s ground zero. He said this shows President Jokowi’s commitment in moving the capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan.
Noor said Jokowi’s uncommon plan was expressed in a brief meeting at the Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan Airport on January 31 and only involved three people that consists of President Jokowi, State Secretary, and Noor himself.
“The President will spend the night camping at the new capital’s ground zero,” said the governor on February 2. “The exact schedule is not out yet, but it will be soon.”
He explained that the camping plan will be more than a symbolic event as the plan involved hosting a meeting with local customary leaders in the province from ethnic groups such as Kutai, Dayak, Paser, Berau, Banjar, Bugis, and Java.
“East Kalimantan cultural art performances will be shown during this event. A collective prayer will also be conducted for the continuity of the capital city move of Nusantara from Jakarta to Sepaku,” he added.
