TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police traffic corps (Korlantas) law enforcement director Brig. Aan Suhanan on Tuesday claimed that electronic traffic law enforcement or ETLE is able to reduce traffic violations in the capital city of Jakarta.
“The ETLE is able to shed traffic violations in Jakarta to about 40 percent. This is much more effective compared to [traditional methods] with field traffic ticketing,” said Suhanan on December 7.
In the national coordination meeting he reminded traffic police officers to adapt to the digital age and master current technological advancements. He also urged members of the public to understand the country’s traffic law.
"We have to be IT literate, like the current disruption of digitalization, like it or not, we also have to keep up with changes in information technology,” he said.
The ETLE ticketing method is one of the current police chief’s priority programs that is hoped to reduce direct interactions with traffic police and curb opportunities for bribery.
