TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Health Office revealed the result of whole genome sequencing or WGS. It was discovered that 54.3 percent of the samples tested showed mutations of variants of concern.
The mutations of variants of concern were found in 2,245 WGS samples. Of the found variants of concern, 93 percent were the Delta variant and its sub-variants. The rest are the Alpha, Beta, and Kappa variants.
In a press release published at ppid.jakarta.go.id on November 17, the Jakarta Health Office said that 28 percent of the variants of concern infected people under the age of 18. Sixty-two percent found in people aged 19 to 59, and 10 percent in people aged 60 or older.
Today, Jakarta announced 130 new cases in 15,629 people tested. The Health Office's director for disease prevention and control, Dwi Oktavia, said that 61 out of today's new cases—or 47 percent—were found in migrant workers who are in quarantine.
Dwi Oktavia said that every foreign traveler who tested positive for Covid-19 must undergo whole genome sequencing (WGS) examinations.
"The Jakarta Health Office is actively conducting WGS examination to see the possibility of dangerous virus mutations or variants of concern (VOC)," she said.
